Rates

I typically use the Track Changes feature in Microsoft Word to mark my edits, so please email documents for copy editing in Word format (.doc or .docx) if possible. Suggesting mode in Google Docs is another option if you don't have access to Word. 

 

I accept payments through PayPal. Money orders are also welcome. I can accept personal checks, but the check must clear before work on a project begins. This can take several weeks, depending on your bank.

 

Arrangements can be made to work on your manuscript in stages if you would prefer not to submit a large project all at once. I request a deposit of fifty percent to begin with the balance due upon completion.

Turnaround time on most projects is five to ten business days (not counting weekends) from the date I receive your document. I can also accept some rush jobs (turnaround time less than five days), but please be aware that there will be an extra charge for this service (usually, a double-rate charge).

Basic Proofreading Service

My basic service includes proofing for spelling mistakes, typos, punctuation problems, capitalization errors, and awkward grammar.

  • $4.50/page (page = 1-250 words) when marking hard copy (printout)

  • $4.00/page for corrected electronic copy (MS Word file)

Extended Proofreading/General Editing Service

Extended proofreading / general copyediting includes everything that comes with the basic service package. In addition, I will help you with the overall structure of your manuscript. Is your writing clear? Does it make sense? Is your word choice clear and appropriate? Are there any redundancies or inconsistencies? Is your content clear, fluid, and accurate/believable? I work to improve the general clarity and flow of the text by eliminating wordiness, redundancy, and inappropriate word choices; smoothing transitions; rephrasing awkward passages; and reconstructing and moving sentences and paragraphs. During the editing process, I will leave you comments and questions in the margin of the document that address these issues and more.
